Arunachal Pradesh will soon host India’s first private second-generation (2G) ethanol plant using bamboo as a renewable feedstock, marking a milestone in the country’s clean energy drive.
The announcement came from Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing on Saturday after he attended a virtual conference on “Pioneering Sustainable Bio-Industrial Development in Arunachal Pradesh.”
Calling the initiative a “landmark platform” for a greener and more prosperous future, Tasing said the state’s abundant bamboo resources make it an ideal location for the facility. “This project is more than a technological breakthrough; it is a statement of Arunachal Pradesh’s resolve,” he said.
The plant is expected to promote eco-friendly industrialisation while creating new economic opportunities for local communities. “By leveraging our resources sustainably, we will generate green jobs, empower rural communities, add value to local produce, and strengthen self-reliance,” the minister noted.
Tasing emphasised that the project “respects the environment, honours our people, and places Arunachal at the forefront of the nation’s eco-industrial growth story.”
The virtual conference brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs to discuss sustainable bio-industrial pathways, with the bamboo-based ethanol plant highlighted as a flagship model that could inspire similar ventures nationwide.
