A high-level delegation from the Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA), joined by Ashwini Srivastava, Joint Secretary (Sugar) in the Department of Food and Public Distribution, visited EID Parry’s Nellikuppam Sugar Mill and the Sugarcane Breeding Institute (SBI), Coimbatore on August 25 and 26, 2025.
The visit aimed to accelerate advancements in cane variety breeding, genome editing, and AI-powered solutions, with a focus on establishing a collaborative industry research programme that encourages direct participation from sugar mills in varietal selection.
During the two-day visit, the delegation explored global best practices and gained valuable insights into advanced research and development across sugarcane breeding, biotechnology, agronomy, and sustainable farming techniques.
This initiative represents a significant move toward fostering deeper collaboration between industry stakeholders and research institutions—laying the groundwork for innovative, future-ready solutions in India’s sugarcane sector.
