Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the site of the defunct sugar mill in Khumtai, located in Golaghat district, earlier this morning. The mill, which has remained non-operational since 1996, spans 554 bighas. During his visit, the Chief Minister assessed the area and mentioned that plans are underway to launch a new project on the land.
He visited the sugar mill as part of the vision for Advantage Assam 2.0.
His announcement has rekindled hope among local residents, who are optimistic about the revival of industrial activity in the region after nearly three decades of inactivity.
According to the Assam CMO, the Govt is taking concrete steps to repurpose the land for productive industrial use. Construction of the boundary wall will begin soon, marking the first step towards transforming the space into a hub of economic activity.
