Sitapur: Avadh Sugar & Energy Limited in Hargao distributed modern agricultural equipment to sugarcane farmers at a 50 per cent subsidy during a programme held at the mill premises on Thursday, Live Hindustan reported.
The initiative is aimed at encouraging the use of farm machinery and improving sugarcane productivity in the district. Farmers were welcomed at the event and provided with equipment in the presence of senior officials.
District Cane Officer Ratneshwar Tripathi and Seed Production Officer Poonam Yadav handed over the machines to the beneficiaries. Speaking on the occasion, the district cane officer said that adopting modern technology is key to making farming more profitable and sustainable.
He said the Hargao sugar mill has been supporting growers for the past several years by providing subsidised equipment such as small tractors, trench planters, tractor-operated spray machines, automatic sugarcane planters and ratoon management machines. He added that these efforts have contributed to a steady rise in sugarcane production in the area.
Executive Chairman Arvind Kumar Dixit said the focus is on increasing the average yield of sugarcane in the district and addressing labour shortages through mechanisation.
Officials explained that the automatic cane planter can prepare furrows, cut seed cane, apply treatment in the furrow and cover it after planting. The machine also places fertiliser directly into the furrow, which helps boost crop yield.
Executive Vice Chairman Sharad Singh said farmers interested in availing of the subsidy for the automatic cane planter and ratoon management equipment can contact the mill for details.
Secretary Anand Prakash Dubey, Cane General Manager Manoj Nirwal, Ajay Bhanu Singh, Vineet Sisodia and other officials and staff of the cane department were present at the event.
