Workers at Natore Sugar Mill have declared a strike beginning Sunday as part of their push for a four-point set of demands, which includes raising the daily wage allowance to Tk 700 and securing benefits aligned with the Pay Commission, according to the local media report.
Employees gathered in front of the mill to demonstrate, urging authorities to address their concerns. They cautioned that if their demands continue to be ignored, they will escalate their protest by refusing to work.
CBA President Ayub Ali, General Secretary Abu Saeed, and several other union leaders attended the gathering. According to Ayub Ali, the workers plan to stage a one-hour strike at the mill gate at 9 am on November 30, followed by a two-hour walkout the next day. A human chain protest is scheduled for December 2 in front of the administrative building, with a full-day shutdown planned for December 3.
In addition to wage adjustments, the workers are calling for the hiring of daily laborers to fill vacant seasonal positions, the regularization of seasonal staff, and the extension of Wage Commission benefits to employees in line with what is offered under the Pay Commission.
