A two-day training programme focused on “Quality Seed Sugarcane Production Techniques and Its Use” wrapped up today at the Sugarcrop Research Institute office in Thakurgaon. The event aimed to improve farmers’ knowledge and techniques in producing disease-free sugarcane seed.
The programme was organized under the ‘Farmer-level Disease-free and Clean Sugarcane Seed Production and Extension (1st Revised) Project.’ It was inaugurated by Shahjahan Kabir, Managing Director of Thakurgaon Sugar Mill, who attended as the chief guest.
The training session was chaired by Sohrab Hossain, Chief Scientific Officer at the Bangladesh Sugarcrop Research Institute (BSRI), Thakurgaon.
Among the special guests were Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman, Chief Scientific Officer and Head of the Pathology Department at BSRI, Ishwardi; Project Director Dr. Imam Hossain; and Abu Raihan, General Manager (Agriculture) of Thakurgaon Sugar Mill.
A total of 60 farmers from the Thakurgaon Sugar Mill area participated in the programme. Two of them shared their own experiences with sugarcane seed production and usage, offering valuable insights to fellow attendees.
The training covered a wide range of practical topics aimed at improving sugarcane productivity and quality. Key areas included the selection and multiplication of superior seed varieties, efficient seedling production, field management practices, integrated pest and disease control, and the application of environmentally friendly fertilizers and pesticides.
