Belize cabinet approves strategic plan to revive sugar industry

In a significant move aimed at bolstering the struggling sugar sector, the Belize Cabinet met on July 1 to deliberate on the findings of a special inquiry into the sugar industry. Following the review, the government endorsed key parts of a new long-term plan to rejuvenate the sector, reports Breaking Belize News.

A central outcome of the meeting was the approval for the creation of a new “Sugar Cane Industry Authority.” This independent body will be responsible for developing and putting into action strategic plans designed to modernize, enhance, and transform the sugar industry.

Cabinet members engaged in extensive discussions regarding the inquiry commission’s comprehensive report before giving their approval to several components of the proposed Strategic Action Plan. The establishment of the new authority is seen as a crucial step towards implementing these vital reforms and ensuring a more robust future for the sugar industry.
