Riga: Farmers meeting aimed at boosting sugarcane production and encouraging the use of modern farming methods was organised in the sugar mill, reports Daily Bhaskar.
The programme was held at the local mill premises in coordination with the Sugar Industry Department. Farmers were informed about improved cultivation practices and the benefits of farm mechanisation during the event. The meeting was presided over by the Assistant Director of Sugar Development, Sitamarhi, Deepak Kumar.
Representing Sonalika, the area manager said tractors ranging from 20 to 75 horsepower, along with other agricultural equipment, would be provided to sugarcane growers at affordable rates. He also announced that farmers purchasing a tractor and a rotavator together would receive a 50 per cent subsidy.
Agricultural scientist Shruti Moses explained advanced methods of sugarcane cultivation in detail. She also spoke about common pests affecting the crop and the measures needed to control them.
Senior Sugar Manager Amrendra Kumar Singh and Sugar Manager Sunil Kumar Singh appealed to farmers to increase the area under sugarcane cultivation.
Several progressive farmers, including Shyam Babu Singh, Manoj Kumar Singh, Ajit Prasad, Anil Kumar Singh, Nandlal Sahni and Sujay Kumar Singh, attended the programme.
