Patna: The Bihar government’s sugarcane industry department has initiated a fresh move to revive closed sugar mills in the state. It has been decided to re-evaluate the assets of the Sakri and Raiyam sugar mills, with a survey expected to commence soon, reported Live Hindustan.
The sugarcane industry department has entrusted SBI Caps, Kolkata, with the responsibility of conducting this re-evaluation. Anil Kumar Jha, the Cane Commissioner, has issued the relevant orders in this regard. The primary objective is to establish sugarcane-based industries at these locations. This has raised hopes for the re-establishment of sugar mills. There is anticipation that a decision regarding this matter will be made before the commencement of the Bihar Assembly election process.
The reopening of these two mills is expected to benefit thousands of farmers in the region.
The Raiyam sugar mill has been closed since 1994, while the Sakri sugar mill has been non-operational since 1997. The Sakri sugar mill is spread across approximately 47 acres, and the Raiyam mill covers 68 acres.
