Patna, Bihar: Sanjay Kumar Paswan, newly appointed as Bihar’s Sugarcane Industry Minister in the Nitish Kumar government, assumed office on Saturday. Speaking to the media, he said serious efforts would be made to reopen sugar mills that have been shut for years and it is a top priority. He added that under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s leadership, the state government is giving top priority to the welfare of sugarcane farmers, reports Live Hindustan.
He said all departmental processes will be made faster, transparent and technology-driven. The minister said a detailed review will be conducted to restart closed sugar mills, and necessary steps will be taken to ensure benefits for both farmers and the sugar industry.
Paswan directed officials to ensure timely payment of cane dues to farmers and to make all mill-related operations smoother, quicker and more accountable. He said innovation, transparency and strong on-ground monitoring are essential so that every scheme reaches farmers on time.
Earlier, Cane Commissioner Anil Kumar Jha briefed the minister on key schemes, including the Bihar State Jaggery Promotion Programme, the Chief Minister’s Sugarcane Development Scheme and the Sugarcane Mechanisation Scheme.
