Motipur Industrial Area is moving toward another major milestone in Bihar’s industrial development, with a expansion planned in ethanol production. The construction of two new ethanol units is progressing rapidly, and once operational, they are expected to generate direct employment for nearly 1,000 people, while benefiting thousands more indirectly, reported Dainik Jagran.
According to the Bihar Industrial Area Development Authority (BIADA), ethanol units are already operational in the Motipur Industrial Area. Construction of ethanol plants began in 2021, with production starting in 2023. With the commissioning of the two new units, the total number of ethanol plants in the industrial complex will rise, substantially boosting overall production capacity.
An individual ethanol unit provides direct employment to around 400–500 people. With the addition of new units, this number is expected to increase significantly. Moreover, large-scale indirect employment is being generated across sectors such as transportation, raw material supply, daily wage labor, retail, and other service-related activities.
As per the news report, Rakesh Ranjan, Director of Muzaffarpur Biofuels Company, which is setting up the new units, said that one of the company’s ethanol plants is already operational in Motipur, while the second is under construction. He noted that all the units in the complex are maize-based and that ethanol production will see a major rise once all units become operational this year. According to him, each unit is also supporting indirect employment for nearly 3,000 to 4,000 people.
He added that ethanol produced at these units is being directly procured by petroleum companies, ensuring smooth marketing without major challenges. While the government is providing several incentives and facilities to industries, he emphasized the need to further strengthen procurement mechanisms in line with rising production.
BIADA Deputy General Manager Neeraj Mishra said that one of the new units in Motipur is in its final stage of construction and will begin production soon. He also noted that interest among new entrepreneurs in investing in the ethanol sector continues to grow, reflecting increasing confidence in the industrial ecosystem of the region, reported Dainik Jagran.
With expanding infrastructure, strong policy support, and growing private investment, Motipur is fast emerging as a key center for ethanol production and industrial employment in Bihar.
