Bijnor: Plan to expand crushing capacity of Kisan cooperative sugar mill on hold

Bijnor (Najibabad), Uttar Pradesh: The proposal to increase the crushing capacity of the Kisan Cooperative sugar mill in Snehroad to 5,000 TCD is likely to be shelved due to insufficient sugarcane availability.

In a letter, Kumar Vineet, Managing Director of the Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Sugar Mill Federation, informed RTI activist Manoj Sharma of Adarsh Nagar, who had sought details regarding the expansion, that the proposal has been shelved, reported Live Hindustan.

According to the letter, raising the mill’s crushing capacity to 5,000 TCD would require about 90 lakh quintals of sugarcane in a single crushing season, which cannot be ensured. At present, the Snehroad based Cooperative sugar mill operates with a crushing capacity of 3,000 TCD and has an attached distillery producing 40 kiloliters of ethanol per day.
