Pilibhit: The Bhanu faction of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) held a meeting at the Kisan Vishram Griha of the Mandi Samiti, where farmers discussed several problems, including the delay in sugarcane payment. A memorandum was submitted to the Naib Tehsildar, reports Live Hindustan.
Discontent spread through the organisation after the complaint of district vice president Baburam Verma regarding land measurement remained unresolved. District president Bhajan Lal Krodhi said the farmers were growing increasingly upset because earlier memorandums had not been acted upon. He warned that farmers would not tolerate the administration’s negligence any longer. He added that farmers were in distress and demanded immediate payment of sugarcane dues, along with a fair rate of ₹450 to ₹500 per quintal based on costs.
District vice president Baburam Verma alleged that corruption in Amaria tehsil had reached extreme levels and should be stopped without delay. He also called for farmers to be given the benefits of government welfare schemes.
Pilibhit tehsil president Nand Kishore Rathore pointed out that farmers there were forced to pay unofficial fees to get work done. He said that land measurement, house records, pathway marking and embankment work were not completed without such payments.
District vice president Prakash Rajput highlighted the poor state of cow shelters, saying that no action was taken even after repeated complaints. District media in-charge Dharmendra Gupta said that eligible people must be provided houses under the Prime Minister and Chief Minister housing schemes.
The meeting was attended by several farmer leaders and members, including Om Prakash Rajput, Deendayal Shastri, Sanjay Dixit, Shikhar, Shekhar Dixit, Yogesh Awasthi, Sukhlal Gangwar, Ramchandra Rajput, Balamukund Prajapati, Nisar Shah, Arun Awasthi, Om Prakash Maurya, Ram Bahadur Pal, Pravesh Pal, Beniram Maurya, Omkar Gangwar and Kunj Bihari Gangwar.
