Phagwara: Bhartiya Kisan Union (Doaba) activists under leadership of state vice-president Kirpal Singh Mussapur and state press secretary Gurpal Singh Pala, on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. Akshita Gupta, demanding urgent repair of the slip road adjoining Golden Sandhar Sugar Mill, reported The Tribune.
The union highlighted that the stretch from Hanumangarhi Temple to the sugar mill on the Jalandhar side has been in poor condition for a long time, causing serious inconvenience to farmers and commuters. They said the road is a key link for transporting sugarcane during the crushing season and is also used daily by the public, but its present state makes it unsafe and difficult to use.
After submitting the memorandum, Gurpal Singh Pala told reporters that the slip road is vital for both farmers and local residents to reach the main city. However, he said the administration has repeatedly overlooked its poor condition. He also alleged that illegal encroachments along the route are worsening traffic problems and need to be cleared.
The BKU (Doaba) leaders urged the district administration to take immediate action to repair the road and remove encroachments before the start of the sugarcane season, saying timely steps are essential to avoid further hardship for farmers and the public.
