Mandi Dhanaura: At a recent meeting of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) Tikait, farmers demanded that the state government fix the sugarcane rate at ₹500 per quintal. The gathering also called on authorities not to trouble farmers over the moisture content in paddy, reports Amar Ujala.
The meeting was held on Sunday at Bijli Ghar, with state vice-president Alok Kumar stating that the government is not serious about addressing farmers’ issues. He urged the government to declare the sugarcane rate before the start of the sugar mill season. Kumar also highlighted that farmers are facing difficulties during the government’s paddy procurement, and called for relaxation in standards related to moisture content.
Participants at the meeting also demanded strict measures to protect crops from stray cattle, and urged that the Ayushman Bharat scheme benefits be extended to all individuals who have crossed the age of 60.
Surendra Saini, Satish Tyagi, Ramveer Singh, Mukesh Sharma, Chandrapal Singh, and Jhunde Singh were present.
