During his visit to Brazil to attend the expanded BRICS Summit and take part in bilateral meetings, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Mr. Daniel Lopes, Vice President of FS, on July 6 in Rio de Janeiro. FS is one of Brazil’s leading companies in producing ethanol from corn and a major supplier of low-carbon biofuels in Latin America, reported VnEconomy.
At the meeting, Mr. Lopes said FS is committed to promoting sustainable development. He explained that the company uses modern technology and smart farming to make clean energy products such as ethanol, power from plant materials, and useful by-products for animal farming. He also said FS is very interested in building a long-term partnership with Vietnam to work together on biofuels.
Prime Minister Chinh welcomed the idea and appreciated FS’s willingness to work with Vietnam. He said that Vietnam is gradually carrying out its plan to shift to cleaner energy and is focused on meeting its goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, a commitment made at the COP26 climate conference. He added that clean energy, especially for transport, is an important part of this plan.
The Prime Minister asked Vietnamese agencies to look into how such a partnership with FS could be developed. He encouraged FS to work closely with Vietnam’s ministries, local governments, and businesses to share its experience in producing biofuels.
He also expressed hope that FS would increase its business and investment in Vietnam and strengthen ties with Vietnamese companies, including Petrovietnam, to support technology sharing and help Vietnamese firms join the global biofuel industry.
In addition, the Prime Minister suggested that FS could help Vietnam access E10 gasoline at a reasonable price. He proposed that FS and Petrovietnam carry out a joint study to explore the possibility of developing ethanol production projects in either Vietnam or Brazil.
