Sao Paulo: Sugar production in Brazil’s center-south region surged by 22% during the first half of October compared to the same period last year, reaching a total of 2.25 million metric tonnes, as reported by industry association UNICA on Wednesday.
UNICA’s report showed that 32.77 million tonnes of sugarcane were crushed during this time, marking a substantial 17.6% increase from the previous year’s figures.
Both exceeded market expectations, as analysts surveyed by S&P Global Commodity Insights had forecast sugar output to hit 2.21 million tons while crushing was seen reaching 31.66 million tons.
