Bulandshahr: Pending payments to farmers may lead to cane area deduction for sugar mills

Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh: District Magistrate Shruti held a meeting with cane department officials on Monday and directed that the sugarcane area allocated to sugar mills be reduced in the upcoming crushing season if they fail to clear pending cane dues. She expressed displeasure over the non-payment of dues by sugar mills and ordered immediate settlement of payments.

During the review meeting held at the Collectorate, DM Shruti emphasized that farmers should not face delays in receiving payments. “Sugar mills that have not yet cleared farmers’ dues must do so before the next crushing season begins. Payments must be made as per government guidelines, and any negligence in this matter will not be tolerated,” she said.

The DM also reviewed ongoing repair work at the sugar mills and instructed that it be completed on time to avoid disruptions in the upcoming season.

District Cane Officer Anil Kumar informed the DM about pending cane dues from sugar mills. Expressing dissatisfaction, DM Shruti issued a stern warning to these mills and ordered immediate payment. She cautioned that failure to comply would lead to a reduction in their cane allotment for the 2025–26 crushing season, with the area reallocated to other mills, Live Hindustan reported.

She further instructed sugar mill representatives to ensure that all maintenance work is completed well before the new season begins. The meeting was attended by ADM (Administration) Pramod Kumar Pandey and other officials.
