Domestic Market
Domestic sugar prices traded steady to higher

Domestic sugar prices in the key markets were reported to be constant or increasing. Prices were reported to be Rs 10 per quintal higher in Maharashtra and Karnataka, but remained stable in Uttar Pradesh.

Heavy rains in Central and portions of India has had an impact on trading activity. Demand is stated to be quite poor; although the monthly quota was lower, offtake is very slow, keeping prices under check.

M-grade sugar prices between Rs 3,860 and Rs 3,940 per quintal in Muzaffarnagar, and S-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,720 and Rs 3,750 in Kolhapur.

International Market

At the time of writing this update London White Sugar #5 front month contract is trading at $485.50 ton, whereas the New York Sugar #The 11 front month contract is trading at 16.40 c/lb. The corn futures market trades at 412-0 and the ethanol Chicago trades at 1.72250s

Currency, Commodity & Indian Indices

The rupee traded against the US dollar at 85.677 whereas USD was trading with BRL at 5.5625 Crude WTI traded at $67.34 barrel. Sensex closed 345.80 points down at 83,190.28 whereas Nifty closed 120.85 points lower at 25,355.25.
