Domestic Market

Domestic sugar prices were reported steady to weak

Domestic sugar prices were reported weak across major markets, with prices declining by around ₹5–10 per quintal in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Northern Karnataka. The downward bias follows a persistent decline since the commencement of the crushing season, largely driven by comfortable supply availability and subdued demand conditions.

According to the latest data released by the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA), sugar production in India has reached 11.9 million metric tonnes (MMT) as of 31 December 2025. A total of 504 sugar mills are currently operational this season, compared with 9.54 MMT of production and 492 mills operating during the corresponding period last season, indicating a notable year-on-year increase in output.

Spot prices in key physical markets reflected this subdued sentiment. In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, M-grade sugar was quoted in the range of ₹3,920–₹3,990 per quintal. Meanwhile, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, S-grade sugar traded slightly lower at ₹3,575–₹3,630 per quintal, extending the gradual downward trend observed over recent sessions.
