Domestic sugar prices remained stable

Onset of monsoon earlier than normal

Domestic sugar prices have remained stable over the past five sessions. Prices are at a two-month low due to weak demand from end users. Prices are expected to stay low due to slow demand and heavy rainfall in Southern and Eastern India.

The southwest monsoon arrived in Kerala on Saturday, May 24, eight days before the usual date of June 1st, marking the earliest onset since 2009. Rainfall was reported to be heavy in the major cane-growing regions of Maharashtra and Karnataka.

M-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,950 and Rs 4,070 per quintal in Muzaffarnagar, and S-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,735 and Rs 3,790 in Kolhapur.
