Domestic sugar prices were mostly stable
Domestic sugar prices remained largely steady across key regions for the second consecutive session, reflecting a cautious market environment. Trade sources indicated that demand continues to be strictly need-based, as crushing operations are progressing smoothly across major producing states, ensuring comfortable supply availability. Moreover, the widening gap between lower export realizations and relatively higher domestic price levels is expected to keep overall market sentiment under pressure in the near term.
In an announcement on December 26, the Food Ministry allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) for January 2026, which is lower than the quota allocated for January 2025.
In December 2025, the government had allocated a monthly sugar quota of 22 LMT for domestic sale. In January 2025, sugar quota was 22.5 LMT.
Spot prices in major physical markets mirrored this subdued tone. In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, M-grade sugar was quoted in the range of тВ╣3,950тАУтВ╣4,020 per quintal. Meanwhile, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, S-grade sugar traded marginally lower at тВ╣3,610тАУтВ╣3,660 per quintal, extending the gradual downward trend seen over the past few sessions.

International Market
At the time of writing this update London White Sugar #The 5 front month contract is trading at $435.20 ton, whereas the New York Sugar # 11 The front month contract is trading at 15.29 c/lb. The corn futures market trades at 451-0 and the ethanol Chicago trades at 1.65500s.
Currency, Commodity & Indian Indices
The rupee traded against the US dollar at 89.750 whereas USD was trading with BRL at 5.5527 Crude WTI traded at $58.39 a barrel. Sensex closed 367.25 points down at 85041.45 whereas Nifty closed 99.80 points lower at 26042.30
