Domestic Market
Domestic sugar prices continue to rise

Domestic sugar prices in the major markets were reported to be higher for the second session on the back of lower monthly quota. Prices in the major markets of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka were reported to be higher by Rs 20-30 per quintal..

The Food Ministry has released the monthly quota for the month of July. As per the update, quota was reported at 22 lakh tons, lower by 1.0 lakh tons compared to the previous month and by 2.0 lakh tons compared to the previous year. Lower monthly quota has led to sharp increase in prices in the spot markets.

M-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,950 and Rs 4,000 per quintal in Muzaffarnagar, whereas S-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,760 and Rs 3,800 in Kolhapur.

International Market

At the time of writing this update London White Sugar #5 front month contract is trading at $485.40 ton, whereas the New York Sugar #11 front month contract is trading at 15.99 c/lb. The corn futures market trades at 414-2 and the ethanol Chicago trades at 1.65000s

Currency, Commodity & Indian Indices

The rupee traded against the US dollar at 85.482 whereas USD was trading with BRL at 5.4725 Crude WTI traded at $65.65 barrel. Sensex closed 303.03 points up at 84058.90 whereas Nifty closed 88.80 points higher at 25637.80
