Domestic Market
Domestic sugar prices continue to trade weak

Domestic sugar prices were reported weak across major markets, with prices declining by around ₹10–30 per quintal during the session. The sharpest correction was seen in Uttar Pradesh, where prices fell by ₹20–30 per quintal, largely due to a wider market spread and sustained selling pressure. In comparison, Maharashtra and Northern Karnataka witnessed a relatively milder decline of ₹5–10 per quintal. Overall, the market continues to remain under pressure, extending the downward trend observed since the start of the crushing season, amid comfortable supply availability and subdued demand conditions.

According to the latest data released by the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA), sugar production in India has reached 11.9 million metric tonnes (MMT) as of 31 December 2025. A total of 504 sugar mills are currently operational this season, compared with 9.54 MMT of production from 492 mills during the corresponding period last season. This reflects a notable year-on-year increase in output, reinforcing the prevailing supply-heavy market sentiment.

Spot prices in key physical markets mirrored this subdued tone. In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, M-grade sugar was quoted in the range of ₹3,900–₹3,980 per quintal. Meanwhile, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, S-grade sugar traded slightly lower at ₹3,565–₹3,620 per quintal, extending the gradual downward trend seen over the past few sessions.
