Coimbatore: E.I.D. Parry (India) Ltd has shown strong interest in adopting innovative technologies developed by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) to promote sustainable sugarcane cultivation and improve sugar production, according to The Hindu.
A delegation from E.I.D. Parry, led by Abdul Hakeem Ashiq J, Chief Operating Officer for sugar and allied businesses, recently visited TNAU’s Centre for Plant Molecular Biology (CPMB) and Biotechnology. During the visit, the team examined research and techniques related to sugarcane cultivation, sugar recovery, and the development of new, disease-resistant sugarcane varieties, including tissue culture-based methods.
The visit focused on learning about TNAU’s advanced work in genetic improvement, boosting sugar yield, and enhancing the overall quality of sugarcane while reducing the environmental impact of cultivation practices.
The team also held discussions with TNAU scientists on innovative approaches to increase productivity through sustainable methods.
N. Senthil, Director of CPMB and Biotechnology, confirmed that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will soon be signed between the university and E.I.D. Parry. The agreement will formalise research cooperation aimed at advancing technology and sustainability in the sugarcane industry.
According to Prof. Senthil, the partnership will combine academic expertise and industrial application to develop solutions that benefit both growers and manufacturers in the sugar sector.
