New Delhi: India’s ongoing 2025–26 sugar season has recorded a strong performance due to early crushing operations and improved yields, resulting in higher sugar production compared to last year, according to NFCSF.
Sugar output has reached 225.30 LMT as of February 14, up from 197.80 LMT during the same period of the previous season. The improvement has been supported by higher cane crushing and better recovery rates across key producing states.
The average sugar recovery rate this season stands at 9.31 per cent, compared with 9.09 per cent last year. States such as Gujarat, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra have reported improved recovery, supporting higher output.
Officials said the early start to crushing allowed mills to process more cane over a longer period, helping offset challenges such as weather variations in some regions.
With several mills still operational, production is expected to rise further before the season formally concludes.
