Egypt is planning to increase its biodiesel production by recycling used cooking oil, with a new processing facility set to be established through investment from Al Mana Holding, a company based in Qatar, UkrAgroConsult reported.
The facility will be located in the Tenth of Ramadan City integrated waste management zone and is designed to process up to 100 tonnes of waste cooking oil each day. The collected oil will be converted into renewable fuel.
According to the Ministry of Environment Egypt, the project aims to channel large quantities of used cooking oil away from informal disposal methods and into an organised recycling system that supports energy production.
Egypt uses millions of tonnes of edible oil every year, creating significant potential to collect used oil for biofuel production.
