Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli chaired a meeting at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital on Monday, 19 January 2026, to follow up on the latest developments in plans to revitalize sugar companies affiliated with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade, as well as progress in upgrading and modernizing production lines.
During the meeting, the prime minister reaffirmed the state’s commitment to developing the sugar industry and reinforcing the food security system, with the aim of ensuring the sustainability of strategic commodities and their consistent availability to citizens.
Cabinet Spokesperson Mohamed El-Homsani stated that the meeting reviewed the implementation rates of development plans for the sugar companies. He highlighted that the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade succeeded in achieving self-sufficiency in sugar over the past year, in addition to establishing a safe strategic reserve, which has strengthened the state’s capacity to deal with potential fluctuations or emergency challenges in global markets.
El-Homsani added that it was noted during the meeting that sugar factories affiliated with the ministry are operating at full production capacity, maintaining regular performance levels and high efficiency. This comes alongside the continued implementation of programs to modernize production lines, improve operational efficiency, and upgrade quality control systems across all stages of production to ensure sugar is produced in line with the highest standard specifications.
