European Union set quota for Ukrainian sugar at 100,000 tonnes

The European Union has raised its import quota for Ukrainian wheat to 1.3 million metric tonnes, up from 1 million tonnes, under an revised free-trade agreement, senior EU official said on Friday, reported Reuters.

As per the news report, the EU also set the quota for Ukrainian sugar at 100,000 tonnes, up from 20,000 tonnes before the war, but down from quota-free imports of 400,000 tonnes in 2022-23 and over 500,000 tonnes in 2023-24.

The EU and Ukraine reached an initial trade deal at the end of June. In response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and the resulting disruption to Black Sea shipping routes, the EU had temporarily suspended tariffs and quotas on Ukrainian agricultural products, as per the report.
