Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh: Farmers under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Pradhan) staged a protest at the Collectorate on Monday, accusing Malakpur Sugar Mill of not making timely sugarcane payments for several years. They also handed over a memorandum of demands to the District Magistrate, reports Live Hindustan.
District president Sanjeev Dangi said that for the last 26–27 years, farmers from Luhari and Dhikana villages have been supplying their sugarcane directly to Malakpur mill. This year, however, they have decided not to send any cane to the mill.
He urged the administration to allot these farmers to other mills such as Daurala or Khatauli, where they could expect timely payments. According to him, this step would provide much-needed relief to sugarcane growers who are already struggling financially.
Farmers including Azad, Bhim, Pawan, Rajkumar, Rajveer, Jasveer, Sanjeev Kumar, Kapil, Rampal, Omveer, Surendra, Ashish Tomar, Ajay, Tejpal, and Chhatrapal also joined the protest.
