The United Kingdom says it will retain the UK Global Tariff and expand its raw sugar import quota by an additional 65,000 tonnes starting January 1, 2026, reported Fiji Times.
Speaking in Parliament, Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Charan Jeath Singh said Fiji will continue to receive duty-free access under the UK–Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement for the next eight years.
“This is a significant diplomatic and trade achievement for Fiji and a clear endorsement of our sugar industry,” Mr. Singh said.
He added that the Rarawai Mill will restart crushing today. “This sends a strong message that our rehabilitation efforts are producing results and that the Government is putting the industry back on track.”
