Government procures 45 LMT wheat in Punjab

Chandigarh: Around 45 lakh metric tonnes of wheat has been procured in the state mandis, said Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, reports  Tribune India.

The government has transferred Rs 7,300 crore to the accounts of two lakh farmers so far and has not imposed any value cut, he said.

“Strict orders have been issued by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to the state procurement agencies that farmers should get the full amount irrespective of any cut,” he said.

The government of India should not have imposed a value cut which is an injustice to the farmers that are experiencing loss due to heavy rainfall, said the minister.
