Government welfare schemes: Maharashtra launches statewide survey to register sugarcane cutters

In an effort to support sugarcane cutters across Maharashtra, the state’s Social Justice and Special Assistance Department has begun a survey to register workers through the Loknete Gopinath Munde Sugarcane Cutters Welfare Board. Sanjay Rathod, Minister of Soil and Water Conservation and Guardian Minister of Yavatmal district, has encouraged all sugarcane cutters to take part in the initiative.

Speaking about the survey, Rathod said that the goal is to issue identification cards to sugarcane cutters so they can benefit from government welfare schemes. Many of these workers migrate for about six months every year, which often prevents them from receiving the help they are entitled to. He said the registration will help solve this issue by making them visible in the system, reported Free Press Journal.

The state government has hired an agency through an open bidding process to manage the survey, register workers, and distribute ID cards. This entire process will be carried out free of cost.

Rathod urged all sugarcane cutters to take part in the drive, adding that it is a valuable step toward making sure they get the support they deserve.
