Ludhiana: In a major crackdown on food adulteration, local food safety officials carried out raids in Tajpur and near Samrala Chowk on Thursday, seizing a substantial quantity of suspected adulterated food items. The operation led to the confiscation of 100 kilograms of khoya, 350 kilograms of sugar intended for making jaggery (gur), and seven quintals of gur. Officials also issued challans to multiple vendors for violating food safety regulations, reports The Hindustan Times.
All seized food products have been sent to a laboratory for analysis to assess the level of contamination. Alongside the raids, the food safety team took action against other potential health risks. Six samples of soda banta bottles were collected for testing, and a vendor near Samrala Chowk received a challan for suspected violations. In Tajpur, a business selling energy drinks near a school was also penalized under Section 58, as officials expressed concern about the health impact on schoolchildren.
Ludhiana Civil Surgeon Dr. Ramandeep Kaur underlined the health department’s dedication to protecting public well-being. She stated that surprise inspections will continue and that strict measures will be taken against anyone found breaching food safety norms. Supporting this, District Health Officer Dr. Amarjit Kaur emphasized the department’s commitment to ensuring that all food products available to the public are safe and meet quality standards.
Further investigations are underway, and authorities have warned that individuals or businesses found guilty of food safety violations will face serious consequences.
