Haryana: Budhewal sugar mill begins crushing season, releases Rs 2 crore to farmers

Ludhiana, Haryana: The Budhewal Co-operative Sugar Mill has started its 2025–26 crushing season and has released around Rs 2 crore as immediate payment to local sugarcane farmers. With the mill now operating at full capacity, growers have been able to clear their fields on time and prepare for the next crop without the usual seasonal delays, reports The Times of India.

The mill began crushing sugarcane on November 29 and is currently functioning at peak capacity, according to general manager Gurvinder Singh. He said the timely start has helped farmers complete harvesting early, allowing them to move ahead with sowing their next crops as planned.

The mill management said all payments for sugarcane procured up to December 4 have already been cleared. The amount has been transferred directly to farmers’ bank accounts to avoid delays caused by intermediaries. The management added that proper arrangements have been made to ensure timely payments continue throughout the 2025–26 season.

Singh said the uninterrupted running of the mill has provided much-needed relief to farmers and assured that every payment would be credited directly to growers without delay.

To improve recovery and overall performance, the general manager appealed to farmers to supply fresh and clean sugarcane, free from leaves and waste material. Growers were also asked to strictly follow the procurement schedules, known as sugarcane slips, issued by the mill.

He urged farmers to supply their produce directly to the co-operative mill, describing it as a unit owned by farmers themselves, where earnings return to the local community. The smooth start of the season is being seen as an important development for the Ludhiana region, where the co-operative sugar industry plays a key role in supporting farmers during the winter harvest period.
