Taking action against illegal importation of sugar, Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) seized a consignment of 14 tonnes of sugar that was illegally imported at Sirari Border in Tarime, Mara Region.
Mr Allan Madu, a customs officer at Sirari Border Post said, “We got information that some traders were using young motorcyclists to evade tax at the border by smuggling sugar into the country. Following this, we tightened our vigilance and seized the sugar that was being transported in the country. We have also seized other food items including 9,000 litres of edible oil and hundreds of bags of cement.”
The government has urged the traders to be patriotic and pay taxes to avoid any action against them.
