Indonesia, Russia discuss potential investments in sugar sector

Indonesia’s Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, and his Russian counterpart, Oksana Nikolaevna Lut, discussed opportunities for agricultural collaboration during a meeting in St. Petersburg, Russia.

According to a statement from Indonesia’s Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday, the two ministers talked about potential investments in the sugar sector and the export of crude palm oil.

They also considered plans to build a joint fertilizer plant in Indonesia, open the Indonesian market to Russian meat imports, and boost agricultural research and technical cooperation through technology exchange.

The meeting was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, underscoring the significance of agricultural cooperation as a key pillar in bilateral relations.

During the meeting, President Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to expanding strategic cooperation with Indonesia across multiple sectors, including agriculture.

“There are many opportunities, and we have the capacity to grow together,” he said.

President Prabowo also expressed optimism, noting that relations between Indonesia and Russia are improving steadily and hold great promise, especially in economic cooperation.

“Our relationship continues to improve. I see significant progress in many areas. The economy is strengthening, and cooperation is becoming broader and more productive,” he said.
