Andhra Pradesh: Industries Minister visits Kovur sugar factory site, explores industrial development in Kovur

Nellore: Minister for Industries and Commerce T.G. Bharath visited the site of the long-closed Kovur Cooperative Sugar Factory on Tuesday, accompanied by local MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy. The visit focused on exploring the potential for setting up new industries in the Kovur constituency of SPSR Nellore district, reported The Hindu.

The Minister also participated in several development activities in Pothireddy Palem village in Kovur mandal as part of his visit.

MLA Prashanthi Reddy briefed the Minister on the condition of the sugar factory, which has remained shut for the past 13 years due to a severe financial crisis. She informed him that the State government has already decided to clear pending wages owed to the factory’s workers and hand over its 124-acre land to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) for the development of industrial units.

The MLA urged the Minister to take steps toward establishing new industries in the area to help create employment opportunities for local youth. Minister Bharath responded positively and assured support for the proposed plans.
