U.P. Sugar Mills Association (UPSMA) has appreciated the State Government’s decision to increase sugarcane price, as a step forward towards increasing the farmers’ income.
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced an increase of Rs 30 per quintal in sugarcane prices for the 2025-26 crushing season, in a major decision benefiting millions of sugarcane farmers in the key growing state. Under the new rates, early varieties of sugarcane will fetch Rs 400 per quintal, while normal varieties will be priced at Rs 390 per quintal.
Deepak Guptara, Secretary General of UPSMA, said, “The sugar industry is committed to support our farmers and this reflects the Hon’ble Chief Minister’s commitment to farmers’ welfare”.
He said that the industry has been facing a revenue crunch due to the non-revision of the sugar MSP fixed at Rs 3100 per quintal since 2019, and on account of a high quantum of levy and low realisation of levy molasses prices, along with no increase in ethanol prices for the last three years.
“UPSMA reiterates to work jointly with the State Government for the prosperity of farmers, sustainable industry operations and advancement of Uttar Pradesh’s leadership in India’s sugar sector and towards a 1 trillion $ Economy of the State with the continuous support of the State Government,” Guptara said.
