ISMA hosts Indonesian Govt delegation to advance India-Indonesia bioenergy collaboration

The Indian Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA), along with participations from Toyota Kirloskar Motor, recently hosted a high-level government delegation from Indonesia to discuss the future of renewable fuels.

The meeting focused on India’s successful ethanol blending program and its role in achieving national goals of self-reliance and development. Indian officials presented their policy-driven bioenergy framework as a potential model for other emerging economies in the Global South.

During the exchange, Indonesian representatives shared their own experiences and technical roadmap for biodiesel blending. The two nations discussed the concept of “moving forward together” (jalan bareng) to build resilient, low-carbon energy systems. The dialogue highlighted how international cooperation can help both countries improve energy security and meet their decarbonization targets through shared knowledge and policy alignment.

The discussions also explored next-generation bioenergy solutions beyond traditional ethanol. These include compressed biogas, sustainable aviation fuel, green hydrogen, and the blending of isobutanol with diesel. By looking toward these advanced technologies, the participants aimed to find new ways to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and foster inclusive economic growth.

The Indonesian delegation featured senior leaders from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, including Director General Eniya Listiani Dewi and Director of Bioenergy Edi Wibowo. Representatives from the state-owned energy company Pertamina and the Indonesian Embassy in New Delhi also participated. This high-level engagement reinforces the growing partnership between India and Indonesia as they lead the way in renewable energy innovation for the region.
