Dharwad: Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu held a meeting with farmers and officials from the Kalaghatagi region to ensure that farmers receive fair compensation for sugarcane cutting and transportation. She directed sugar factories to strictly follow the rates fixed by the government, reports Deccan Chronicle.
During the meeting, Prabhu instructed the Kalaghatagi Tahsildar and police officials to implement the directions issued by the district in-charge minister and the district administration regarding sugarcane transport.
She stressed that all sugar factories in the district must comply with government norms on sugarcane cutting and transport charges. “Failure to follow these norms is creating serious difficulties for farmers,” she said.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed officials to make sure that fair rates are provided for both cutting and transportation of sugarcane.
Sub-Divisional Officer Shalam Hussain, Joint Director of the Food Department Dr. Vinod Heggadagi, Kalghatgi Tahsildar Basavaraj Honkanadavar, and farmer leaders Mahesh Belagavkar, Ulavappa Badiger, Vasanth Lakkappanavar, Purushottam Ettinagudda, Shivu Tadas, and Basanagouda Siddanagoudar attended the meeting.
