Kalaburagi: The Karnataka Pranth Raitha Sangha (KPRS) has that the State government fix the sugarcane rate at Rs. 5,000 per tonne.
Addressing reporters on Tuesday, KPRS district president Sharanabasappa Mamshetty said that the State government fix the sugarcane rate at Rs. 5,000 per tonne and direct sugar factories to clear farmers’ dues within 14 days of cane supply. He said a 16% interest should be imposed on delayed payments.
Accusing sugar mills of manipulating sugar recovery assessments and ignoring government orders to conduct yield tests in the presence of officials and farmers, Mamshetty alleged that factories were overcharging for cutting and transportation. He called for an expert committee to investigate irregularities in weighing and recovery tests at sugar factories, reported The Hindu.
The organisation has announced a series of agitations across all taluk headquarters in Kalaburagi district starting November 4, demanding that the State government immediately declare the district flood-affected and provide Rs. 25,000 per acre compensation to farmers under the SDRF and NDRF schemes.
