A fatal workplace accident claimed the life of a young daily-wage labourer at the sugar dactory in Sankeshwar town of Hukkeri taluk on Monday, reported The Times of India.
The victim has been identified as Sachin Yamananni, who had joined the factory as a daily worker only about 10 days earlier. Preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred while he was loading lime into the crusher section of the plant. During the process, Sachin reportedly lost his footing and was pulled into the moving conveyor belt, resulting in severe injuries.
Fellow workers immediately stopped the machinery and attempted to rescue him, but he was declared dead at the scene. Following the incident, Sankeshwar police arrived at the factory and carried out an initial examination.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether safety norms were being followed and to establish if any lapse or negligence by the factory management played a role in the accident.
The incident comes shortly after another major industrial tragedy in the region, where a boiler explosion at the sugar factory in Savadatti taluk recently led to the deaths of eight workers.
