The West Asia conflict is being felt in Indian households. The LPG cylinder disruptions have begun affecting both households and commercial kitchens, forcing people to rethink their daily cooking arrangements while raising concerns about how long the shortage may persist.
Several LPG consumers said that they have been waiting for days to receive their booked cylinders, with distributors citing supply tightness. The uncertainty has left many families worried about how they will manage if their current cylinders run out, with many contemplating alternative arrangements.
Neha Arora said, “It’s been five days since we have been waiting for the supply of LPG cylinder in our homes. Every day we are told there is supply tightness, and it would take some time. We are worried that if our ongoing cylinder runs out, then what will we do?”
The disruption is not only affecting households but also the food service industry, where LPG remains a primary cooking fuel. Restaurants and kitchens that rely heavily on gas have been compelled to modify their operations to ensure uninterrupted service.
Some establishments have temporarily streamlined their menus, focusing on dishes that can be prepared using alternative equipment such as induction cooktops, ovens and fryers. By shifting to these appliances, kitchens are attempting to reduce dependence on LPG while maintaining normal service.
Amanda Bhandari, who owns a marquee restaurant ‘Bombay Club’, said, “The LPG disruption has meant rethinking how our kitchen operates day to day. We’ve temporarily streamlined our menu around dishes that work with induction, ovens and fryers, while ensuring the experience for our guests remains just as warm and satisfying.”
Despite the operational challenges, businesses say they are trying to ensure that the dining experience remains unaffected.
Domestic consumers and businesses are pinning their hopes on a quick resolution to the supply disruption, as prolonged shortages could further strain both household kitchens and the food service sector.
