Bagpat: Malakpur Sugar Mill on Tuesday cleared Rs 18.37 crore of last year’s pending sugarcane dues owed to farmers, with the amount credited directly to their bank accounts. The mill management assured that the remaining payments would be made soon, reports Amar Ujala.

The sugar mill has outstanding sugarcane arrears of about Rs 120 crore from the previous year. Farmers had been facing difficulties due to the delay in payments and had repeatedly raised demands for the clearance of their dues.

Taking note of the farmers’ problems, District Magistrate Asmita Lal intervened and directed the mill management to release the pending payments. Following this, Rs 18.37 crore was transferred to farmers’ accounts on Tuesday, with assurances that further payments would follow shortly.

Malakpur Sugar Mill’s commercial deputy general manager Vijay Kumar Jain said efforts are underway to ensure that the remaining dues are credited to farmers’ accounts at the earliest.
