Man arrested in Jhansi for adulterating petrol and diesel with ethanol

Jhansi: A member of a gang involved in adulterating petrol and diesel with ethanol was arrested in Jhansi district, Uttar Pradesh, informed the officials on Tuesday, according to The Week.

The arrest took place in the Babina area, where a joint team of the local police and the Excise Department conducted a raid following a tip-off.

According to Babina Station House Officer (SHO) Tulsiram Pandey, the team raided a location near Aman Dhaba at Badora crossing and arrested Kamlesh Rai, 42, a resident of Baroda village. During the operation, the team seized around 1,700 litres of illegally stored ethanol.

Two of Rai’s alleged accomplices, Dinesh Rai and Rambabu Rai, managed to escape during the raid. A search operation is currently underway to locate and arrest them.

Police said the gang was engaged in mixing ethanol with petrol and diesel, which they then sold to unsuspecting customers. The seized ethanol is valued at approximately Rs 1.25 lakh, officials said.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover others connected to the illegal fuel adulteration racket.
