Bangkok (Thailand): Mitr Phol Group, a global food manufacturing company known for its sustainability work, is stepping up its promotion of fresh sugarcane cutting for the 2025-26 crushing season through its “Let’s Green the Sugarcane” campaign. The campaign encourages farmers to harvest clean, fresh-cut sugarcane to help create a healthier and more sustainable environment, reported The Nation.
The company is also continuing its program to buy sugarcane leaves for use as biomass fuel for the eighth year in a row, supporting Thailand’s renewable energy production. Mitr Phol has prepared a detailed harvesting plan to ensure smooth operations throughout the season.
Mitr Phol Group Chairman Buntoeng Vongkusolkit said the company focuses on sustainability at every stage, cultivation, crop care, and harvesting. He stressed efficient fertilizer and water use and urged farmers to adopt fresh-cane harvesting instead of burning. He added that progress toward a sustainable season requires cooperation from government agencies, private groups, local leaders, and farmers.
He said the company has organized harvesting schedules, managed cane harvester allocation, and planned cutting queues to secure quality yields within the crushing period.
For over a decade, Mitr Phol has supported farmers through its Mitr Phol ModernFarm program, which promotes modern, precise farming methods using advanced technology and machinery. This reduces production costs, increases efficiency, and encourages environmentally responsible practices. Farmers are also urged to leave cane leaves on the ground to retain moisture, reduce weed growth, and improve soil health.
Farmers can earn extra income by selling surplus cane leaves through Mitr Phol’s Cane Leaves Purchasing Program, which converts the leaves into biomass fuel. Over seven years, the company has purchased more than 3 million tonnes of cane leaves, generating over 2.8 billion baht in income for farming communities.
Mitr Phol continues to promote fresh cane cutting through the “Let’s Green the Sugarcane” campaign, which last year emphasized the idea of a “mantra for a sustainable beginning.” The campaign aims to show farmers the benefits of fresh cane—better income, cleaner energy, healthier soil, and a cleaner environment.
It also highlights a key message: meaningful change is possible when everyone works together. Choosing not to burn cane, the company says, is a simple but important step toward cleaner and more sustainable communities.
Through continuous support for fresh cane harvesting and its cane leaf program, Mitr Phol says it is strengthening its long-term sustainability goals across economic, social, and environmental areas, while also helping advance Thailand’s sugarcane industry and farming sector.
