Monsoon session of Parliament to begin July 21; several key bills on the agenda

The Centre is expected to introduce and pass several important legislations during the upcoming monsoon session of Parliament, scheduled to begin on July 21. Among the proposed bills are the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025.

According to the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the government will also bring forward the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025; the Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025; the Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill, 2025; the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025; the National Sports Governance Bill, 2025; and the National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025 for introduction and consideration.

Additionally, the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024; the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024; the Indian Ports Bill, 2025; and the Income Tax Bill, 2025 are also expected to be taken up during the session in the Lok Sabha.

As part of ongoing efforts to modernise and streamline parliamentary operations, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has undertaken several initiatives under the leadership of the Speaker. These efforts aim to enhance transparency, inclusivity, and public engagement with parliamentary processes. The developments were shared during an informal meeting held earlier today.

To support a more digitally enabled working environment, each seat in the Lok Sabha chamber has now been equipped with multimedia conferencing devices. A new feature allows Members of Parliament to mark their attendance directly through these devices—reducing procedural steps and saving time on a daily basis.

In another key initiative promoting linguistic inclusivity and accessibility, the Lok Sabha Secretariat has begun publishing daily legislative business and agenda papers in 12 Indian languages using AI-based translation tools. These languages include Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, and Telugu. The documents are made available in real-time through the Digital Sansad portal (https://sansad.in), enabling broader access to parliamentary proceedings for both MPs and the public.

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju earlier confirmed that President Droupadi Murmu has approved the schedule for the monsoon session, which will run from July 21 to August 21. There will be no sittings on August 13 and 14 in view of Independence Day celebrations.

Meanwhile, the 268th session of the Rajya Sabha is also set to begin on July 21, as noted in the official Parliamentary Bulletin. The Legislative Section has issued summons to members via the Members’ Portal, notifying them of the upcoming session’s schedule and business calendar.
