Muzaffarnagar: Sugarcane crushing expected to begin after Diwali

Muzaffarnagar: The new sugarcane crushing season in the district is expected to be delayed by approximately one week. Officials now anticipate that the season will commence after Diwali, reported Amar Ujala.

While the sugarcane department has completed its preparations for the new season, mill managements are closely monitoring the daily changes in weather conditions. If the weather does not improve, the crushing season is likely to begin in the early November.

The Mansurpur sugar mill has tentatively set the earliest crushing date for October 24. Other mills in the district have informed the Cane Department that they expect to start operations by the end of October or in the first week of November.

In a related development, the operation of local kolhus (traditional crushers) has begun, leading to the arrival of fresh jaggery in the market.

Approximately 2.5 lakh sugarcane farmers in the district supply their produce to eight local sugar mills, including those in Khatauli, Titauli, Budhana, Mansurpur, Tikola, Khaikheri, Rohana, and the Morana cooperative sugar mill. Additionally, sugarcane is supplied to mills in neighboring districts through designated purchase centers.
