No evidence of monopoly in essential goods supply chain, says Malaysian minister

Petaling Jaya, Malaysia: The Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC) has found no evidence of any single company monopolising the supply chain for essential goods such as sugar, eggs, and cooking oil, according to Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Armizan Mohd Ali, reported Free Malaysia Today.

In a written reply to Parliament, the minister stated that MyCC has also not received any complaints about companies misusing their dominant position in distributing these key items.

“Ongoing monitoring by MyCC shows that there is no single entity controlling the entire supply chain for any of these goods,” Armizan said.

His remarks were in response to a query from Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik), who raised concerns about alleged monopolies in the supply chain contributing to the high prices of essential items despite government subsidies.

Armizan encouraged members of the public to come forward with any information or complaints about suspected abuse of market dominance, particularly in the sugar, egg, and cooking oil sectors.
